I’ve started work on adding support for Sony cameras. For those interested in the progress I’ll be periodically updating my developer notes at http://www.testcams.com/airnef/developer/

Spent some more time reverse-engineering Sony support and made lots of progress. Updates posted to the developer page.

    Hi,

I intend to use Airnef on my NAS in a 24/7 manner, so whenever i press the “Send to Computer” button it should connect to my home WiFi and send the Pictures onto the server.

The Realtime mode works for Sony only when you press the “send to computer” button on the camera, but it still searches for the camera every 5 seconds. Does this flood the network?

When using the “send to computer” function on the camera while Airnef is offline the camera does try to connect to the last used computer, wouldn’t it be possible to use this incoming packages as wake signal and use a listener that starts up the airnef realtime mode?
This would also eliminate the need for a fixed IP adress of the camera because the camera tells it’s adress when trying to connect.

(Sadly i have only very basic knowledge of Network traffic, therefore i’m not even sure if what i said made sense or is possible)

But your tool is great i prefer this way above Sony Play Memories Online.

    Greetings

    Hi Haldi,

When airnef searches for a camera every 5 seconds it only sends a few packets each time so the network traffic (and CPU load) is very light. Airnef supports “auto” for the IP address on Sony (and Canon) cameras so it’s not required to use a static IP address – airnef will use SSDP to find the camera.

    Hope that helps!

    Adam
